As Reykjavík is a very popular tourist destination in July, all participants are strongly encouraged to book their accommodation in advance.

To help you prepare for our upcoming conference in Reykjavik, here is a brief overview of the local housing / hotel landscape:

Unlike many major conference cities, Reykjavik lacks large clusters of centralized hotel chains; instead, its accommodation is characterized by smaller, independent boutique hotels and guesthouses scattered throughout the city. Because the peak summer season coincides with a strong influx of tourists, demand can be very high. This unique market structure means that prices might be notably higher than in other European capitals, and rooms in the most convenient areas are booked out early. To ensure you a secure place near the conference venue (University of Iceland) and avoid the highest premiums, we encourage you to take personal initiative and book your stay as early as possible. Taking these steps now will allow you to focus fully on our scientific exchange once you arrive in this stunning landscape.

To help you secure your stay for our summer conference, we compiled a list of 30 accommodations. The primary venue is Háskólatorg, next to the Main Building (Aðalbygging) of the University of Iceland.  The plenary lectures in the morning are in Háskólabíó, which is in walking distance (< 4 minutes) from Háskólatorg. For many of the relevant hotels we arrange a discount code, which you can enter during the booking to get a discount. Further, you might want to consider AirBnB.

Please note that Reykjavik is a compact, walkable city. For many central locations, walking is faster than taking the bus due to the university’s proximity to the downtown (101) district and the specific layout of one-way streets.

Travel Tip: The local bus system (Strætó) is efficient; use credit card or the “Klappið” app for tickets. However, for most hotels listed 2–20, the walk through the old city center and along the Tjörnin pond is highly recommended and often more convenient.
